PeaNUTZ Preamp,etc.
Novice electronics,by, a slightly weary novice.
Basic preamp suitable for beginner there are pictures, but download the linked zip,as the info is all there--and the link SEEMS to work.
Please note; a TL071 op amp chip works "nicer"..straight swap.. and has less overall distortion...741s are a little more vintage, not a hellova lot in it really.
Schematic Files zipped here.
Zip of schematic,etc.
And at blinkin' last-- a sound file or several. These have a TL071 op amp chip in place of the UA 741. Recorded from the line out of a Vox Cambridge 15 to a Fostex x14 tape then to computer.
The amplifier's Treble and Bass were at Full, volume at about 8'o clock and gain at 12 o clock.
Guitar was a Gibson "The Paul II" with standard Gibson pickups and controls.
This is the Peanutz circuit built into a footpedal, and as the treadle cannot "sweep" the pot all the way round..a standard Peanutz with the manual pot has a larger range..that is... slightly cleaner low gain and more distorted high gain settings.
BTW, from the chip equivalences/substitutions that I can see in the datasheets on the net (not interesting, even for a hobbyist) The much vaunted and legendary (I've-got-a) t*be scr*amer (and you-oo havent!!)chip the LM4558/MC4558/whatever f@cking 4 5 and 8 combination - is [wait for it] nothing more than a ........DUAL LM741 CHIP.
Slew rate ,my erse.
This makes the Peanutz vitually a "Quarter Screamer",allowing for the transistors.Oh please yourselves,as Frankie Howerd would have said were he alive..
ANYway..*sighs*
A real Peanutz,at rest.
Moneyshot (;) ).
Here's the pedal and the (same) Peanutz circuit in the "flesh". the only difference is the Tl071 in the pedal.
For the dirty sample the gain is all the way up.
No gain boost was used.
Sample is Gibson played as reference tone then Peanutz (footpedal) is plugged in.
Moderate gain (mid boost engaged. Pedal engaged for whole sample.
Full gain, etc. Pedal engaged for whole sample.
Basic LM386 OpAmp based amplifier, which confused me, I hope that it really isnt that confusing for you. Just build the Version 4F* and you'll be ok,promise :)

Take that coffee away from your mouth or be prepared to lose it through your nose.
They have regular updates, and kind of make up for "Bite the Wax Tadpole".
